The History Of The Open

Every self-respecting golf fan has their own open memory. Depending on age, it could be one of many. Watson and Nicklaus going toe-toe at Turnberry in 1977? Seve’s putt on the 18th at St Andrews in ’84? Even witnessing big Darren Clarke get his hands on The Claret Jug at Royal Lytham and St Annes in 2011? Our personal favourite? It has to be Van De Velde’s wet ankles at Carnoustie in ’99!

The Dawn Of A New Era

Palmer v Nicklaus, Nicklaus v Watson and Tiger v Himself. Self-destruction aside, we could be looking at a great three-way rivalry here but as it stands, Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth look like they could dominate golf for the foreseeable future. If you’re interested, the bookmakers have the pair at 4/1 and 9/1, respectively, with betfair at the time of writing.

The Jolly-Up!

The real reason for a golfing getaway. Akin to the Cheltenham Festival, the town really comes to life at night during the tournament. So, if you can’t play like the pros, at least party like them!

Tickets are still available, so head over to The Open’s website now for tickets and have a summer break you’ll never forget.
